Do you know for certain you are saved? Do you ever wonder about your salvation? Does doubting your salvation make you ‘unsaved’? Finally, what is genuine saving faith as the Word teaches and how does a person saved look and act?
If you are honest, you will admit that there are times you have wondered if you are truly saved and that is perfectly ok, if not healthy. We are told to examine ourselves to see that we are in the truth. A person who never takes stock of himself or herself is not wise. We must regularly examine our hearts, our lives, and other areas of ourselves. To not do this can lead to ruin. We become so robotic or religious that we can deceive ourselves. Thinking all is well when in fact all is not well. So, to wonder about your salvation is fine, even good, because we all need to examine ourselves on a regular time frame. This does not make you unsaved.
So, what is genuine, saving faith as the Bible talks about? This faith is more than intellect or knowing that there is a God. It is more than a passing Fancy where you get worked up in your emotions and say a few words as told to say. It is more than attending church, feeding the hungry, or participating in a church function. Even unsaved folk can do that. Yet, it is not by works of yourself either. Hmm? So, what then? Genuine saving faith is believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is knowing that He came from heaven to earth to willingly lay His life down for us so we could be saved. When someone has this faith, good works automatically follow. Good works are a byproduct of genuine saving faith. They just happen. Do we still sin after salvation? Of course we do and will til we get to the other side. Granted, they should become less and less, but we will still sin. That is why Jesus shed His sinless blood for us. To cover our sin once and for all if we believe in Him.
Can you tell if someone is saved? I believe we get glimpses and glimpses by the way they live. If I say I believe something, my actions will show that I do. But, there are people that are good people, but do not believe in Jesus. So, to say that I can tell if another is saved or not seems to me to be judging and there is only One judge. God, Himself. I believe fruit will show what is inside, but I cannot see another person’s heart so I am better equipped to look at my own heart rather than talk about what I think is in another’s heart. Leave that to God.
So, as you go about life today, take a minute and examine yourself and leave examining another person’s heart to God. Be blessed.
