Blessings & sacrifices go hand in hand. A blessing doesn’t happen without a sacrifice being made. One person receives a blessing that another made a sacrifice to give. That is why it is said that a true blessing always cost someone else something. When told to give your best and you give your second best then no sacrifice was made so you can’t claim that jewel in your crown as you blessed someone. Sure, the person may have needed whatever you gave, but it cost you nothing. So, no blessing reward for you because no sacrifice was made. Understand?
Let’s go to the Word to pull this from. Remember the widowed woman that only had enough flour and oil to bake bread for herself and her son? I Kings 17: 8-24 is where you will find this story. The prophet, Elijah, came to her house and ask her to make him something to eat after she had told him that she only had enough flour & oil to make a meal for herself and her son, then they would die from hunger. Yet, she took all she had, a sacrifice most definitely, and did as he asked. Only then, after she sacrificed and blessed Elijah, did her sacrifice pay off. Read the story and see the blessing she got back. Now, we all may not receive back what is due us as quickly as this woman did, but I promise you that great will be your reward when it does occur.
Need another one? A confirmation kind of thing? Well, let me give you the greatest one. Jesus sacrificed His life to give you eternal life. He took every single sin you can come up with and more on Himself so His sinless blood could cover your transgressions. A blessing occurred because a sacrifice was made. How thankful I am for His sacrifice. It cost Jesus His life in order that we receive the blessing of salvation. Look where He is today and look where we will be one day. That is, those of us who receive Him.
So, I want you to take away two things from this post. First, if you have not received Jesus and His sacrifice for your salvation, please do so now. Just talk to Him as if you two are sitting together because He is there whether you see Him or not and pour out your heart asking Him to come and save you. Ask Him to make Himself real to you. I suggest if you don’t really know Him yet to read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) so you may get to know Him. He will come. He tells us all that He stands at the door knocking (our hearts) and if we will open the door that He will come in. I cannot tell you that you will feel different because you may not, but trust that He heard you and He cannot lie so it is as simple as that. Now, a sincere person will begin to put away sinful things so begin doing just that and talking daily to Him and watch how He begins to work in your life.
The second thing I hope you see is that in order to receive a ‘blesser’s reward’ (my words), a sacrifice must be made. So, next time you give, give big. Sacrifice.
Be blessed as you journey this walk.
