I cannot imagine how each side must have felt. We’re they afraid? We’re they happy? We’re they judgemental? We’re they angry? The questions keep coming. What side did they agree with? I mean really believe? Not what they thought others thought, but what their heart believed? Personally, I cannot imagine anyone believing one race had the advantage over another, but I guess some did. How dark the heart of those must have been. We are all human beings, with feelings the same as another human being. We are all God’s children and the color of our skin is a most remarkable difference, but color is the only thing that differentiates us from one another, period. All have dreams, ambitions, tragedy, hope, joy, sufferings and so on. No one escapes any of these and when we all come together and see the heart of another instead of the color of one’s skin, we can do amazing things together.
With that said, this day in history, Civil Rights Act day fascinates me. I wonder how I would have felt that day. I hope that it would have been a joyous day for me. I hope that what others thought or what I thought they thought would not have mattered to me at all. I hope that I would have welcomed the day and invited someone of another color over to my house for dinner. I would like to believe that is what I would have done, but until we have lived that time, we cannot know for sure. However, I do believe that if we live close to God, we will do the right things. Our minds will be renewed and we shall soar as eagles do without stumbling. We will embrace what is right, what is good, what is pure, what is lovely and so on.
