Kindness/Pass It On Day:

When asked to invent a holiday and explain how it would work, I came up with Kindness/Pass It On Day. This holiday would occur sometime in August, mid August. The month of August has no celebration days so that is why I picked August. Also, August is a very hot month in Alabama and with the heat comes attitudes. The heat just seems to trigger bad attitudes. So, with this August would be the month to be kind. Don’t you think?

This holiday, Kindness/Pass It On Day, is the day that everyone performs an act of kindness to another person. It might be a smile, a hug, a visit, a letter, it could be paying for something for someone or any act of goodwill will work. You must do this act to a stranger, someone you don’t know or at least not very well. Maybe a coin should be issued to everyone over 16 and under 80 if the elder cannot get out and around and the coin is passed on after completion of the act of kindness is executed.

No one is exempt from this holiday. All must take part in it. I believe this holiday could open the way for kindness to be shown more often. It would get our thoughts off of self and onto others, good thoughts, not negative ones. Once this is done, it makes the person want to do more because there is a feeling of joy in giving and we all yearn for more joy and happiness in our lives.

The reason we yearn for more is solely because we mostly only think of ourselves. This is selfishness and most do not understand why they feel the way they do. If we gave more, we would find that joy follows giving. It cannot help but to follow.

So, Kindness/Pass It On Day is the holiday I would invent. But, you know what? We do not need a written holiday of this kind to be incorporated into our lives. We can act out this holiday every day we live if we choose to do so. Try it tomorrow and see what follows. If nothing at all, but a moment of joy occurs, you have gained something. Be blessed.
