The Internet

The internet consumes so much of my time that I am barely sociable. From googling this or that to buying online, it consumes me.

I remember the days before the internet clearly. Some call it primitive, but I call it alive. You see, when you spend so much time online you cease to be a sociable person. In those days, before the internet, time slowed down, people engaged with one another and I would chance to say that a lot of folks had a bit more money. People were more creative finding things to do. Not mimicking others always believing the grass was greener there. People would take the time to make conversation in person.

The last 20 years I have took note of the younger generation and some older as well to have their heads so stuck in their cell phones that they have no clue how to be social. They prefer to hide behind a phone to make conversation. I personally never liked that method mainly because you can be so misunderstood with a text. Text messages can be read so many ways and most can be taken negatively.

Pre-internet time the days were longer. People weren’t rushed. Conversation and visiting folks was the norm. And when so doing, no one had this little bothersome instrument that constantly competed with time spent with others. We had pay phones which took time and a very important reason to use if we needed to contact someone when away from home. We just had more quality time with others. No one felt they needed to let everyone know every second of their day what was going on. Such as what they were eating, what they were thinking, what they were wearing and so forth. Stuff no one cares about anyway. Tempers were less ignited because folks had time to think before speaking or posting. With a click of a button, thoughts get blasted across the air about others. Ugly thoughts, nasty words and relationships get broken permanently with the click of a button. You cannot take those words back. They are now out there for all the world to see. You are left feeling ridiculous and others left feeling hurt.

The money I could save if not for the internet. I can buy anything I see if I have the money without even thinking about the need or not. Simply with the push of a button. No thought of importance or other needs are considered. Pre-internet days I would have to go to a store to purchase something which gave pause for the need or not.

Pre-internet days I was a lot smaller in frame as I notice others were as well. When I can sit on my butt all day and my schedule is accomplished by clicking buttons I seem to gain weight. I sit, I eat, I click, I become anti-social, I eat again, I blow up. Do you notice this as well?

So, one thing I would lose would be the internet. It can consume every aspect of my life. Yours, too if you let it.
