Am I a good judge of character? Hmm? Well, I try not to judge anyone simply because I am not the judge. The judge is all-knowing, all-loving, and has no bias at all in doing so for He created us. I call Him God.
With me judging what a mess that would be. Or any other person for that matter. We cannot know the heart of another. We have not been where they have been or as some say, We have not walked in their shoes. We don’t know the hurts they have endured nor do we know the motives of their heart. All we know is what we see, what we hear, what we think, or what they have told us and more than likely they have not told us everything. So, I nor you have no business judging others.
If we would judge ourselves instead we may find things we need to work on. Better yet, we may find a heart that rather discern than judge. Let me explain the difference.
Both judging and discerning see an issue in someone. Difference is judging informs that person (at times) and informs everyone around them of what they see. Then, they leave that person with hurt, hate possibly and walk away. Probably to go judge another. Discerning sees the exact same issue, but the discerning one stays around to help if wanted and the person is left with hope, not hurt or hate. One sees and leaves. The other sees and offers to stay. One gives hurts and one gives hope. The discerning one then offers godly wisdom, not their own thoughts. I can assure you the one with the issue knows or feels the difference of the two. One that judges is prideful, arrogant, selfish, and has a heart that is closed. One that discerns is humble, selfless, and has a heart open to loving, helping, encouraging, and most of all a heart like God.
So, am I a good judge of character? I can only hope I am a discerner of character and for the most part I try to remember that unless I will help someone to keep my judgements to myself. Be blessed.
