When thinking about what I complain about the most I realized that complaining is futile because unless I change something I am complaining about I will be forever complaining.
Do I get a free ride? Or get a ginny in a bottle to do what I can do? Do I think things are going to change just because I complain? The answer is no to all the above. If I do not like something I can change it usually. If not, then maybe I need to change. Something to think about.
For instance, one thing I complain about and have for a number of years is about Wal-Mart. Most people complain about Wal-Mart. They have over 20 registers for checkout but only 2 at most is occupied by a clerk. Self checkout is where most have to go unless they want to wait in line for hours. I am not trained to operate a cash register. Not that it is hard, but I do not get paid to check myself out. If I were to ever get stopped because I didn’t scan something they will have a fight on their hands. First of all, I received no training on the register and second, if Wal-Mart has time to go through my bags to find an item unscanned then they have people that could ring me up instead of holding me up. Just saying…
Next on the list of WM complaints is if I must check myself out then please make areas bigger so that I have room to work. The self-checkout is a small area that is only big enough for those with at most 10 items.
Then we have the issue of card or cash? Most registers in self checkout are now card only use. If I have cash, which today seems antique and out of date, then I must get in line where the sole employee is running a register and move to the back of the store where the line now is for an employee checkout.
Then, before even entering the store I most likely will have to find a cart in the parking lot because there are none inside. Instead of getting my exercise in for the day by walking inside, then back outside, then back inside again I just grab a cart in parking lot first. The point is I should not have to do this every time I visit.
From there, unless you have a receipt you will not be allowed to return an item. How many people do you know that when giving gifts includes the receipt? I know 1 person that does this. Just 1. So, the myth that WM takes stuff back, no questions asked is a fantasy. They do not. They might give you a gift card if you get an understanding manager, but that is rare. Make a scene and raise your voice works sometimes, but I shouldn’t have to resort to this behavior.
Then we have the low stock problem. They never have enough stock during holidays. And if they do have the item you are looking for but cannot find, good luck finding someone to help you. It won’t happen. If you try calling them about something, another good luck. They will not answer the phone. Maybe on break? If so, the break is from opening to closing which may be the reason. Who knows?
Then, we have parking. With so many customers you would think they would spend more money on parking spaces, but they do not. They assign about 40 spaces to the grocery pick up area and this area is never full, but park there and an employee with nothing better to do will scold you. Like I cannot read. I know what the signs say, but with only that area available for parking unless I want to park across the street, what am I to do? I park there all the time now. With no employees to run a register and no managers to manage the store I do not think my car will be towed. How could it? You would need someone to call the towing company and since no one is available to do this then chances are my car will still be there. Don’t get me wrong I try to follow directions, but sometimes WM just pisses me off and I rebel.
The thing I complain most about is WM, but I have the power to change this and so do you. Change stores, go to another store, just do not go to WM and this complaint will be marked ‘took care of’. So, having said all this I have 2 options. Keep complaining or change where I shop. If I continue to shop at WM the problem is me, not WM and I need to just shut up. Most complaints can be changed to status ‘complaint fixed’, but only the complainer can do this.
Hmmm.. Publix is sure looking good.
