How one sees things is the trademark of a good leader. It is all in one’s perspective. We can all see the same thing, but each will see it differently. For example, 4 people had the privilege of hanging out with Jesus and watching Him. Yet, all 4 told the story a little different. Some saw one thing, others another. Their stories are the gospels of the New Testament. Matthew’s view was different than Mark’s. Matthew was a tax collector. Tax collectors were not popular people then especially when they were cheating the very people they came from. I don’t think Matthew much cared if people liked him or not as long as he was not put out in any way. He strikes me as being unfocused and unconcerned. Mark’s view was different than Luke’s. Mark saw and recounted things visually. He wrote and spoke in pictures. Luke’s view was different than John’s. Luke was a physician. Educated, spoke and wrote well and he detailed what he saw leaving no room for miscommunication. Then, we have John. Loving, humble, obedient are words I use to describe John. He was loyal, a follower, and put others ahead of himself. In fact, I think Peter was a little jealous of John. But, John loved anyway. Oh, for more John’s in this world.
The point is regardless of why they were like they were, they all loved Jesus. Just saw Him differently. Maybe their perspectives were shaped during childhood, maybe insecurities, jealousy, greed and bitterness shaped them. Maybe a traumatic experience did the shaping. I don’t know the reasons for them nor for you, but the only way we can have a right and just perspective is to follow Jesus. Spend time with Him. Become like Him by renewing our mind through the Word. This is the only way to see things correctly and this makes a good leader.
Good leaders are not swayed by the crowds. Right is right and wrong is wrong and a good leader takes a stand for what is right. The majority doesn’t influence his decisions. He influences the majority. A good leader loves others, but never trusts mankind completely because he knows that mankind cannot be trusted all the time.
A good leader has discernment and makes good, informed decisions. He takes his time, thinks things over, receives counsel from those wiser and older than himself before voicing his thoughts or decisions. A good leader can say no without feeling as though someone will be upset. He walks the same path in his own life holding himself to the strictest walk and others are not upset. They see truth in him and want to be like him. He is their example.
A good leader stands up for the weak or lesser ones. He doesn’t judge others by the way they look, what they drive, where they live, or how much money they have. He is fair to all and others trust him. He would never allow someone to take advantage of another person and is the voice for the underdog.
Good leaders come from all walks of life. The world doesn’t shape them. They are strong, trustworthy, giving people who put others above themselves. Good leaders are not made. They are born and are ready for the challenge. They lead by example. Jesus Christ fits the role of a good leader completely.
We are either a leader or a follower. Whichever one you are, just make sure you are a good one and remember, it is all in your perspective. Your perspective will always determine success or failure. The choice is yours. Make it a good one.
