Curb Your Pet:

I do not have a pet, but I have friends that do so if I did have a pet I know from watching others what the answer to this question would be. I am not a pet person. I would never be mean to an animal, but they are just not for me.

Too many pet owners are clueless as to other people’s wishes. If I don’t have a pet, then why would a pet owner assume it is ok to bring their pet inside my home? But, they do assume this until something happens, like pooping on my floors or barking incessantly when the owner gets out of vehicle or allowing their pet to run all over my house leaving pet hair all over or the clincher, allowing them to jump on me thus hair all over me? And we can’t forget about when the pet damages something of another person’s. This happens a lot and is worse than smoking around those that do not smoke. I would prefer smoking over pet mishaps. Just me, maybe, but this has been my experience.

Dogs and cats are smart animals. They can be trained. It is the owners that need trained. I have a couple friends who use pee pads. These are placed all over their house. These pads take the place of taking their dog outside. The worst part is they may lay there with poop on them for days before disposed of. This is unnecessary and disgusting. Then, we have the issue of the yard. If you own a pet and insist on taking them everywhere you go, then please pick up after them. What happens is they only do this if someone else is looking. So, the crap lays in the yard to be stepped in by ME. Not a good way to start your day.

Then, we have the issue of taking the dog in stores with them. Getting a doctor to lie and say that this is an emotional support dog. What? It is true and the doctor that does this should be fined. If your pet cannot stay home whle you go to a store or at least stay in the car then the owner needs to be in treatment for stupidity. People who are not dog lovers prefer not to shop for food with dogs all over the place. I must say I do not know which is worse, a dog or a screaming kid that won’t shut up and is not taken out of the store. Discipline starts with the adult. The parent of the screaming kid may have learned blocking skills, but the rest of us have not so shut that kid up or someone else might just do it for them.

What about puppies that chew on everything? Well, get them a toy or leave them at home. No one likes to ask a friend to replace something their pet destroyed, but usually you have to because the owner is clueless or just doesn’t care. Broken friendships happen a lot over this one I would argue.

So, the thing I would want the pet to understand is something that will never happen unless they are taught. That is that when around other humans the animal must obey the human, especially when at another’s house. Or simply, be on your best conduct when not at home. The rules are: 1. Don’t chew on anything. 2. Do not pee or poop inside. 3. Keep the yelping to a minimum or less. 4. Sit your butt still when not at home. 5. Do not by any stretch of imagination jump on someone other than your owner.

The majority of pet issues stem from the owners. They are just too lazy to train their pets and too cheap to have them trained. There should be laws in place where the owner gets fined when pet is not trained. Be a responsible pet owner and remember everybody doesn’t love Fluffy.

No one likes to look like a butt by addressing issues of your pet when that is not your job, but if owners remain clueless or just don’t care the problem of looking like a butt will continue because I, for one will not tolerate conduct from an animal that doesn’t have to be. I may end up without any friends, but I will take that any day over an untrained pet. Just saying…
