Molly, the House Shoes

My favorite shoes are my house shoes. From as far back as I can remember I have loved house shoes. For one, they are easy to put on, I just slide my feet inside, socks or not, and I’m off and running. Seriously, I wear house shoes everywhere. Well, almost everywhere. I would wear them any place, but some folks may get offended or offend me so I make choices as to the places I wear my lovely house shoes.

I have worn them to stores, to events, to church, to appointments and more. I absolutely think there should be a law that everyone must wear only house shoes. We could get things done quicker if so because we would not have to think about what to wear, plus the time it takes to lace them up or strap them on would be saved. Just my thinking.

My house shoes have taken me all over the place and done so comfortably. They are always available as I sit them right by the door to await my next adventure. The perfect fit is what they are. They are never too tight nor too big. They snugly wrap my feet in warmth on those cold Bama days & nights. Why would I want any other traveling partner?

My house shoes are a family favorite. I catch my husband sliding them on from time to time to run the trash to the road or to grab something from the car. Everyone loves my house shoes. I have had my latest ones almost 3 years. They are tough, durable and when washed they look brand new.

Unfortunately I will soon have to search for another pair. The mileage is getting up there and the wear and tear I put on them is tremendous, but all things come to an end and new shoes are needed. Until that time, Molly & I will continue to adventure together. Yes, that’s right, my lovely house shoes have a name – Molly. Why would something so special and so loved not be given a name? The tune about Oscar Meyer bologna fits Molly perfectly. It goes, ‘My house shoes have a first name, it’s M O L L Y’. Got a ring to it, right?

Molly has been a faithful companion and will surely be missed. As her time draws to a close and I am reminiscing our time together, a sadness comes over me. There will never be another pair of shoes quite like her because the places and times we have experienced can never be repeated. So, as Molly’s time draws nigh I will be sure to thank her for her service. Her replacement awaits.
