Music, especially certain songs, have a way of moving you. Your first love has a song that is part of that relationship and when you hear it memories of those times come flooding back. All the old feelings you had for that special someone are renewed and can make you desperately want to be in that time and place again. If you are not careful and understand that what you are feeling is only a part of your past, you may be tempted to try and revive that relationship. Forgetting the reasons it didn’t work out and only remembering the good times, this song can put you in the mindset of those good times when life seemed carefree and your love was all that mattered. Trust me on this one, from experience, that those moments are gone and they will never be the same as they once were. People change, grow, and mature so reaching back is not an option you should take. But, some try and the results can be devastating. Any, the power of music.
Aerosmith sings a song called, Never Wanna Miss a Thing. When I hear this song, memories of times spent with my husband before he was my husband come rushing back and the fun, the love, the feeling of no one except us existed makes it’s entrance in my mind and once again I’m swept up and back to those times of new love being formed and I never want to leave. Ahh, the power of music.
Then, there are songs that evoke times when life was good. You were young and the world was your oyster. Driving down the highway, hair billowing in the wind, you sing at the top of your lungs reliving those precious times. Abruptly, the song ends and reality sets in, but for a few precious moments you were able to feel those feelings again. Ahh, the power of music.
Then, you have those songs that bring sorrow and sadness. A song that reminds you of someone special that is no longer here. The loss, the sadness, the grief are relived once more. The lyrics flow endlessly as tears stream from your eyes wishing that just one more time you could see that someone again. Ahh, the power of music.
King Harvest had a one hit wonder called Dancing in the Moonlight. When I hear this song I just want to dance. It is one of those feel good songs that evokes joy, happiness and a carefree life. When this song plays I cannot help but jump up and dance singing along with it and for the briefest of moments I’m there, in that magical place again. Ahh, the power of music.
Music is something of a mystery. How it brings feelings of all kinds to you stirring up times long ago where life was much different than now is a mystery we will never understand. But, the power it has is phenomenal and maybe we need to visit past times every once in a while. Just don’t stay too long or the magic of today may be missed.
