These two words are similar, but can carry very different outcomes. Fate being an opportunity given without asking for it; while destiny is the choice of the matter by the person given the opportunity. Free will is something all people have meaning the choice made from an opportunity (fate) given to them. Free will determines our destiny.
While we have a choice (destiny) in opportunities (fate) presented is the difference in the two words. Fate never determines the outcome, but destiny always determines this by the choices we make when opportunity (fate) knocks. The two walk hand in hand, but the paths veer when a choice by us is made which determines our destiny.
I guess one could say that the two are one until a choice is made. Maybe??
