Do I vote? No, I do not participate in games not winnable. Let me explain why I do not vote. First of all, it is a waste of time and energy. The people running for this office make promises that they and we both know cannot be accomplished. The President has only 2 things that they, alone, can decide. One is calling for a nuclear attack and the other is giving pardons and reprieves (except for impeachment). The presidential election is the top dog of political voting and only the electoral votes count, not yours or mine. Who I would want to see become President doesn’t hinge on my vote, nor yours unless you are one with an electoral vote. Only the electoral votes count, not the popular vote, the average American’s vote. So, why bother?
You may quip, ‘But, you vote for those that have electoral votes’. Yes, but that doesn’t mean that person will cast their vote as I would for the office of President. Again, why bother?
Politics to me is a game played by those with money or those who can rally up enough money. Crooked as a circle is the way the game is played. For so many years, I have heard, one after another, make promises they don’t keep in hopes of securing a win. Words have no meaning and promises never happen and we, the American people continue to let this go on. If just one man or woman would be honest and say ‘ I would like to see this or that (whatever it is they promise) take place during my tenure, but I can only strive for it to happen because I don’t run the show. I am only the face of the show.” Well, then I may find myself in a voting booth. Until then, I’m out.
If one day, the elections mean something and those making promises come through then I just may cast a vote. But, until then I have better ways to spend my time and energy.
