Always a Follower

Daily writing prompt
Are you a leader or a follower?

Leaders or followers? That is a question asked of all of us at least once in our lives, usually more. For years, not only myself but others as well judged me to be a leader. The word leader seems to carry so much more weight than the word follower. Stronger, smarter, a mover and shaker if you will are visions a leader seems to carry. With that, who would want to be a follower? Well, I have a surprise for you. You are a follower. We all are. And the thing is being a follower is a wonderful thing so long as you are following the right follower.

First, let me explain why there are no leaders, except one. We are born following. Following the directions of another and that person followed someone as well. The cycle goes on and on, never-ending. It is true that some follow bad direction and no fault of their own sometimes, just how we grow up. But, the great thing about this is that we can change direction and head in the right one at any time after becoming adults. It won’t be easy to do this after years of following one direction, but the benefits will be well worth it.

They say, ‘Leaders are born, not made’. I disagree. Followers are born and we are all born so that makes us followers. A follower should have the tags intelligent, strong, flexible, resilient, committed and all the tags that the word leader has attached. Someone who is humble and submissive and vulnerable to the right way has a much greater chance of success.

There is only one leader as mentioned at the beginning of this writing and that is Truth. Truth has another name, Jesus Christ, God, that is and to follow Him is the only way for a life worth living.
