The Colder the Better

Daily writing prompt
How do you feel about cold weather?

I know not many people like cold weather. Florida trips during cold seasons, layer upon layer of clothing, missing out on events simply because it is too cold are a few excuses for the dislike of cold weather, but I absolutely love cold weather. The colder, the better.

Being from the South makes my love of cold weather rarely available. People look sideways at me when I comment that I love cold weather, but I do. Always have. In fact, I refuse to layer up during these times. I do not own a coat and never will. Short sleeves and shorts are readily available at all times and no, this is not a menopausal symptom. Yes, I have had those and talk about longing for cold weather – whew…

I don’t build snowmen nor join in on snowball fights, but every once in a blue moon when Alabama weather allows a snowfall I will make snow cream. For those of you who do not know what that is well, it is ice cream made from snow. Delicious is the only word to describe it.

Hot weather causes anger to come forth in people that do not even have anger issues. Hot weather causes a person to be drenched in sweat. What a miserable feeling!! Hopefully you have tons of extra clothes because you will need them and add a few extra showers to that as well. Hot weather causes a person to not even want to move because the slightest movement can bring on a bout of excessive sweat. Hot weather causes utility bills to soar. Hot weather causes missing out on some activities especially if you do not have a vehicle with a working air conditioner to get from point A to point B. Hot weather causes so many in conveniences in life that I wonder how anyone enjoys it, but to each his own I guess. There is truth to the saying that you can always add more clothes if cold, but you cannot remove all clothing if hot unless you want to be arrested for nudity.

Cold weather, some may argue causes health issues such as colds and flus, but I would argue so does hot weather. Ever heard of the ‘summer flu’ or a ‘summer cold’?

I just breathe better with cold weather. To open the door and feel the brisk cold air surround me is a love that I cannot explain. I am invigorated and ready to face the day. So, as I mentioned before, the colder, the better for me. Bring it on.
