The Stranger, the Better

Daily writing prompt
Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

Random acts of kindness are far and few between in this world. I love giving so for me these acts are easy. I’m also a firm believer that where much is given much is received and I can testify that you cannot out give God. If you are not a believer look at it this way, ‘What comes around goes around’. In other words what you do will come back to you. Some call this karma.

I wish everyone would do one act of kindness a day. If this happened, the world would be a different place, a better place. These acts of kindness do not have to involve money, but they can if you have it to use. Kindness can be something as simple as a smile, an encouraging word, a compliment, an ear for another to vent, a ride somewhere, or helping someone with a job or project. The ideas are endless. Time is something people hold on to tightly. Almost as much as money. When we give our time to someone, this speaks volumes. More so than money in my opinion.

I give money a lot. This is easy for me. Not because I’m wealthy, but because I know my needs will be provided for by God. Time is my downfall. It is much easier for me to give money than it is time. I have a lot of time these days, but it is so hard for me to commit to give it away. I must work on that one.

I have spurts of random acts of kindness where I perform an act quite often. Then, for some reason it slips my mind unless reminded and I go into the desert phase. But, the question was to tell of a random act of kindness I have done. About 2 months ago, I was at the laundromat and this man came up to me holding his daughter. He just said that they wanted to bless me and his little girl handed me a card with encouraging words and a $10.00 ChicFilA card. Of course my first thought was to pass it on. So, I went to pick up some food called in and the first person to approach the counter to check out I asked for their ticket and paid for their meal. It was $87.58 and the woman and man seemed confused and reluctant. He asked me why I was doing it. I replied I just wanted to be kind today and ask for them to just pass it on. They agreed they would. That is not the last time I did a random acts of kindness, but that one stands out.

I help my family where I can, but with these random acts of kindness I believe it is much better if it is a stranger. I have these coins that say, ‘Spread Kindness – Pass It On’. I sometimes give them out if I remember. I bought a ladies groceries one day as an act of kindness. I have done lots of acts of kindness, but I could do a lot more and need to make a conscious effort to do so.

If you are out and about today, perform one act of kindness to a complete stranger. I assure you that you will be blessed more than the one receiving. Kindness just makes you feel good and in the process the world just became a little better. Remember to tell the person to pass it on!!
