We have five senses. Sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. Of these five the sense of smell is underrated and least appreciated. We put taste at the top usually. I mean who doesn’t like to eat and more so if it tickles our palate. Next would be sight because we have to see to maneuver in this world and to see what we are going to eat, lol. Then comes hearing followed by touch leaving smell at the bottom of the list.
Smell is probably my favorite sense or pretty close if not. Aromas touch so many places in our psyche like calming our nerves, reminding us of people, places or things we have encountered before. Smell can lift our spirits at times. Smell can get our mouths watering before a meal or even afterwards if it carries pleasant aromas. Smell can warn us of things like the smell of a skunk meaning it is close by or was close by. Smell can lift our moods, get us all hot and bothered at times. Smell can tell us it is time to clean up our selves or homes or vehicles and our babies when needed. So, smell is important for so many reasons.
Imagine life without this sense. Babies would keep diaper rashes because we wouldn’t know when they needed changed as quickly. Food would lose it’s appeal because our appetites depend a lot on how food smells which might not be a bad thing these days with obesity numbers hitting new highs. Romance would suffer as well because a mood setting time and place depends on candles which usually carry nice scents. Who buys candles without noticing how they smell? Well, some don’t really care, but the majority does.
So, the question today was, ‘What things would you sell if you were to open a shop?’ Sniff & Sell would be a store specializing in products that smell. Candles, perfumes, lotions, shampoos, leather products and anything with a nice smell attached would be products my store carried.
I think it would be a success. What about you?
