One Thing Always Leads to Another

Daily writing prompt
Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

The local news today reported that a repair was soon to be made on a bridge near Lacon, Alabama. This bit of news tells me either things are pretty peaceful at the present or the writer needs to find a new job because this news would put a hibernated animal back to sleep. Who cares that a bridge may be repaired and worse yet, they are not even sure a repair may occur.

But, as I’m thinking on this juicy bit of news, I began to ponder on things in my life that seem unimportant at the time, but if left unchecked could have terrible consequences. Getting those things life ready is important and when they are trivial matters is the best time to correct them so further damage is not done.

Pondering further on this seemingly insignificant news I began to see that just because this tidbit of news was not important to me it could well be to someone else like people that travel this bridge often. The repair may be small or could be major if it causes damage to their vehicles in some way or just being able to put money in a workers hand if employed with the county’s bridge repair division. This insignificant news may well feed a family today. Who knows, but nothing is insignificant to everybody. Lesson learned: Be careful with your opinions. Everything matters.

The real kicker for me is gratitude received. It has been in the high 90’s and even over 100 degrees here in Alabama. Factor in humidity and whew, heat stroke weather. Fields of corn are scorched from the high temps and no rain. Farmers here must be in tears. I cannot imagine. But, I am able to stay inside where the a/c keeps me comfortable. What about those that have to work in this heat? What about those that lost income from this weather? I am sorry and prayers are going up for all farmers here. Point being it affects someone somewhere and myself even down the line if shortage of food becomes an issue.

How this story went from a bridge repair to myself starving is beyond me, but here we are. One thing always leads to another is the moral of this story, lol.
