There are thousands of professions today and they only keep expanding. Example: Digital Creator, 20 years ago this was unheard of, but today we have thousands of them. We have professions that have been around forever such as teachers, pastors, doctors, and the truly despicable lawyers. I know there are some lawyers out there who are decent, but I don’t know any. The point being these professions are ancient and still needed today. Then, we have the professions that are new and trendy such as digital creators, instacart drivers, Uber drivers, reality stars and so on. If someone can make a dollar today that becomes a profession. Especially if that dollar can be made with minimal effort.
However, there are those professions that make little to no money that I highly esteem. They are the ones that hold this world together. They give everything to help others, at times putting their own selves in danger. Some may make a little money, but not enough to make up what they give. They do these jobs because they care. They care about others even those they do not know. This kind of heart stuns me. I like to believe I have that heart, but if I am honest when I do something most times I benefit in some way. Hard to accept, but as they say, ‘the truth will set you free’.
Those people or professionals that give just to give are the greatest. They are the volunteer firefighters, the first responders, the military & their veterans, the mothers, the fathers, the grandparents, the families that took a child in to love and raise, the caregivers of loved ones on hospice or others caring for a parent with dementia. These are the ones I admire. How could someone not admire these professionals? Now, maybe they don’t don the title professional, but let me tell you something – they should and should be first in line to wear that title.
A professional is defined as a person engaged or qualified in a profession. The word profession is defined as an act of declaring that one has a particular feeling or quality. So, tell me that a mother is not a professional. She is engaged in a profession which is raising children and that job is life-long, no retirement fund awaits, no overtime pay, no vacation days, just work.
I vote that these professionals are the ones that should be at the top, but sadly are mostly overlooked. They have one day of the year set aside for them and named for them, but often that day is overlooked. How sad!! These professions are the true movers and shakers in our world. Let’s give them their dues – everything. Thanks to all you mothers, fathers, grandparents, firefighters, caregivers and all those I have not mentioned that make our world a better place to live in and receive no monetary allowance. Hats off to you all.
