This place is not where wealthy folk live. In fact, it may be the poorest place in terms of money, but by far the richest place you know. It’s not the nicest house around with new cars parked in the driveway. It is not the place others aspire to follow after. It’s not a place where your dreams all come true, yet it is.
Dreams most sought after are a place of safety, comfort, stability and fun all rolled up together. Safety from the world’s constant clamoring for your very soul. Comfort with everything you hold dear such as freshly laundered, lined dry linens, a mattress that may be old but knows every curve of your body, food cooked from scratch because it is cheaper but mostly it is better. Stability because this place never changes. Same schedules, same sense of love and acceptance when everywhere else is chaos and confusion, and the same people doing the same thing day in and day out and fun, of course, because so many people frequent this place and all with their different personalities make this place a lot of fun. This place screams security and when there, all your masks are left at the door because here you can be you. Vulnerable, fearful, insecure you and nobody judges you. You are accepted and loved with all your hangups, completely.
Life is funny though. This place often just expected only gets it’s due diligence when no longer there. All the wishes in the world can’t bring this empty place to life again. That’s when the memories of past times are all that’s left to cling to. Wasted moments, wasted time chasing unimportant things are seen for what they were. A pipe dream, not real, only now emblazoned in your mind of time lost. Lost forever.
Those times, those smells, those people that never changed, those comforts only that place held and the security felt by being tucked away from harm of any kind now only exists in your memories. Memories are a time of the past that cannot be a living part of today and sadly, regret and repentance for not giving proper props to them at the time will not bring them back. Life will go on without them and sometimes the fear, shame, and insecure emotions come flooding back. We reach for the masks once worn trying to cope in a world without that special place.
The safe place. That special place made only for you is gone. The house sits empty. The people are now gone. The smell of home cooked meals now evaporate quickly into the air. The comfort of that place, all gone. The fun and acceptance once held inside are no longer there.
Tears of sadness and regret pour from your eyes. Memories haunt you. An aching felt deep inside continues to grow and hopelessness begins to make its way toward you.
Then suddenly a thought begins to form in your mind. You can create a place like ‘that place’ for others. You have the blueprints. You have the experience of being the recipient of a safe place. Now, it’s time to be the giver of a such place. A place where others can enter in leaving all masks at the door. A place void of judging, hate, evil, and more. A place full of love and acceptance with it’s on unique smells, comforts and fun. A safe place built by you.
