Thanksgiving doesn’t bring turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, ham and the usual in my family anymore. First of all, it is only myself and my husband celebrating Thanksgiving these days so ‘the usuals’ would be way too much food for 2.
Where the Thanksgiving meal of turkey, ham, dressing and such started and became a main stay is beyond me, but for years that is what my family chose to do. After Mom & Dad passed, the gatherings ceased. My family was not huge to begin with so losing the heads made a huge dent in numbers.
My husband & I decided after they passed that we had dined on thr traditional Thanksgiving meal long enough and if truth be told I was never a fan of that meal anyway. I saw a recipe in a magazine one day that sounded delicious and that has became our Thanksgiving meal ever since. It is Shrimp Salad with a Twist and so easy to make. Large shrimp, black olives, diced red onions, chopped tomatoes, 3 color rotini pasta and balsamic dressing. Pair that with toasted garlic bread and you have discovered a hidden treasure. Takes 30 minutes to make and leaves leftovers for a couple days. Simply delightful!! Feel free to borrow this recipe. We may just start a new ‘traditional meal’.
