Goodness Prevails

Daily writing prompt
What would you do if you won the lottery?

The Lottery. People fantasize about winning it. People make lists of what they would do with the money if they should win. People buy ticket after ticket hoping to win. Then, reality hits and the dreams fall fast. I wonder if anybody ever really wins this and begin to think it is all a big scam to get tickets sold and line the pockets of those who are at the top of this scam while those who spent way to much sink into a dark depression. I will probably never know the answer to this question, but the question remains and remains unanswered.

Remember when the commercials advertised this? There is a knock at the door, once opened the lady is presented with a huge bouquet of flowers and a check the size of a car is given to her showing the millions she she just won? The tears of joy come, hugs for all are dished out and ‘the maybe next year I will be the lucky one’ forms in your mind, but that year never comes, yet tickets are still purchased because somewhere deep inside we hope.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot fathom why I can’t be the lady on the receiving end of that knock. I have big plans for that money and most would be used to help others so why not me? Hmm.. maybe my plans before I receive it are a front hoping I can fool someone into drawing my name if indeed that is the procedure for picking the winner. I cannot know and more than likely never will. But, let’s pretend – that we can do.

If I did win the lottery, I would first give God His. It’s really all His, but He only asks for a tenth so that would be my first duty. After God gets His, I would make sure my family and friends that have struggled with me are ok. Then, I would open a place in my city where those that are homeless could come and take advantage of the services we offer such as a safe, comfortable place to sleep, be fed, get showers and become educated in some type of skill to help get jobs where they could eventually be able to support themselves and hopefully give back a little of what they have received. I know this is a big order, but so is my God and with Him all things are possible.

Please understand I would use some of the money to pay off my debts and surprise members of my family with gifts, but the majority of the money would be used to help others down on the luck. I am a firm believer that the good in mankind comes out when they see sincere giving without motives.

Only time will tell, but one day my number may come up and as with any of us that day will reveal what truly lies within. I hope I will walk what I preach. Be blessed.
