I have always had a hole in my pocket, so to speak. I just do not have the patience or discipline I need to save money. I can make the most elaborate budgets with plenty left over to save, but following it is a completely different story.
Some might say I am spoiled, but that is not the case. I began working in my junior year of high school so I could buy things I wanted, not needed – wanted. I enjoyed working. People do enjoy working if what they do is enjoyable and I have always found the perfect jobs for the times I worked. So, spoiled? No, that is not the issue.
If I see something I like, I want it then, not later and I want one of every color or style. For whatever reason I guess I think if I don’t get it NOW I may never get it. The truth is if I wait I would probably find I really don’t want it. I have so many pairs of shoes – the expensive ones, Freebirds and of the 12 pair I have, I have worn 2 pairs of them once. They sit nicely in my shoe storage and access is easy to get, but they sit and sit and sit while I wear my comfy everyday house shoes mainly. This cycle carries over into every other part of my life. Clothes, undies, jewelry, body lotions, parfums, handbags, you name it, I have it and a lot of it.
If I had the money that I have spent on these things, I would be wealthy. I mean it – wealthy. But, things remain the same and ‘a penny saved is a penny earned’ never enters my mind.
Don’t get me wrong I am perfectly ok with my lifestyle and if I could do it over I would probably repeat this habit that most consider bad, but not me. I do occasionally wonder what life would have been like if I had went in another direction, but not enough to change my spending habits.
The way I see it is if I am ok with it why do others seem to get annoyed with my spending habits? It doesn’t affect them. My answer to those folks is ‘Mind your business and I will mind mine’.
