We all need and benefit from quiet times. Times when it is just you and your thoughts. Totally alone with your mind and all that it entails. You can mull things over without voices pulling you this way and that way. Prioritize matters that maybe have been pushed down for a later time. Ahh, the quiet times. Nothing like them until they become deafening and the volume keeps rising.
The days and nights when the quiet engulfs you, wraps around you like a blanket so cozy and warm leaving you breathless yet suffocating. Those times are dangerous for your well being. You feel trapped with no life line as the quiet becomes your enemy threatening to overtake you. Tears roll, unstoppable. Your chest swells with pain you have never experienced, throbs deep within and to try and speak is ludicrous. No words can be formed and your mind races with thoughts bittersweet. Stuttering is the best possible outcome and even that cannot be attained. These are the times in one’s life that make you or break you and the choice doesn’t seem to be yours anymore. Hang on, take a few slow, long breaths and ask God to intervene. Then, just wait. Wait on Him.
The pain of these times are intense and only God can get you through. These times are few and far between in one’s life. They come usually after a huge loss. A loss so devastating that your world is turned upside down and people try to ease your pain with words that even they don’t understand.
The strangeness of these times cause people to avoid you not because they don’t care, but because no words can fill the void and pain of your loss. My loss is different than yours and vice versa. It is heavy, painful and only God can soothe it. Different yet the same as another’s. These times must be walked through- no easy route yet achievable with time.
Sit with me in the quiet. Cry with me in the quiet. Hold my hand in the quiet. No words are necessary. Your presence is enough. As this happens you will see that the loudness of the quiet becomes a little more bearable. I understand you cannot fix this, nobody can. Your being with me in the quiet is enough. The deafening of this time slowly gets better as the quietness returns to volumes you can handle. Unless someone has walked your exact path it is impossible to understand your pain. All pain is different and all loss is painful. Not meant to be understood, just accepted.
So, sit with me in the quiet, my friend. No words are neccessary.
