As I walk this path of uncertainty, I must let go of what was and what might have been in order to live life as God would have me walk it. I cannot hold on to people no longer here. As much as I wish they were still here, the reality is they are not and life must go on with me accepting this fact. Yes, it is hard and yes, it is painful but the truth is that God has something else just as beautiful and worth living as when that person was here with me. I just have to open my mind to the possibilities that lie ahead and begin to look for God in today.
As long as I hold on to feelings as truth, I will not see the beauty in today. Feelings are fickle and fleeting. They change based on so many different circumstances. Truth does not change. I must remember this when I am on the roller coaster of feelings.
Healing takes time and I must allow myself the spectrum of the process. I do not have to rush this process, but I must stay in reality, not feelings. I must give myself grace as I navigate healing. I don’t have to forget my life before with the loss of that person but I must accept that the chapter of that time is gone and new things await. I cannot live in the past if I desire beauty and love again. I thank God for the season of beauty and love with the one no longer here. I thank Him for the time I had with that wonderful person.
Now it is time to heal, to look ahead for the next chapter of life. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow in who He is but He gives better blessings today than yesterday. He doesn’t want me to settle for anything other than the best. He will allow me to choose but why would I choose to stay where I am if something better awaits me? I must remember this as I heal. I don’t have to rush the process but I must grow not settle. To settle is to wither and die. To settle means there is nothing better ahead and I just can’t believe that. If that were so I might as well give up and die. When there is nothing to look forward to what is the purpose of living?
So, today I will release yesterday and all that came with it and begin to look ahead for God’s beauty again. The memories of yesterday I will fondly remember. They will stay close in my heart to pull out from time to time to sit with a bit and remember. Then, after a while I will lovingly tuck them away again in the recesses of my heart as I continue to live in today and all of it’s beauty.
Release and let go.
